Lucas Updates

Lucas turned 2 1/2 this month. He is still really into helping in the kitchen, reading, and anything he can do with Daddy. Right now one of his favorite things to do is recite Nursery Rhymes. His faves include: Sing a Song Of Sixpence, Three Blind Mice, Old King Cole, Little Boy Blue, Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater, I Had a Little Nut Tree, and Mary Mary Quite Contrary. He doesn't like to be filmed with the video camera which he makes clear at the beginning of his video above. He continues to be very verbal and recently called Great Granny, introduced himself, and told her about his trip to the fair for at least 2-3 minutes before I had to step in and begin prompting him. When we pick him up from the sitter's he always tells us about his day and whether he was good or bad. So he's definitely a talker like his mommy.

Lucas is getting more and more temperamental, but the books say that's normal and I'm just going to keep telling myself that too. He is not interested in potty training yet so we are going to let him decide when it's time. I think once he makes up his mind, it will be a quick and smooth transition. I have bought bedding for a big boy bed, but we haven't purchased the furniture yet. Lucas isn't trying to climb out of his crib yet so I'm hesitant to make the transition until we absolutely h ave to, so he may just stay in his crib for a few more months.

It's amazing how time flies and how much of a big boy Lucas getting to be now that he's 2 and a half.

Vanderburgh County Fair

We had a great time Monday night at the fair. We actually ran out of time to do all the fun things we had planned. We started out in our stroller headed to the dairy barn. Both boys loved the cows and enjoyed petting them. Thanks to Anna and Erin for having such tame cows that the boys were able to do so. We got to see Mr. Goebel milking a cow and I think that it was the first time it clicked with Lucas that milk really does come from a cow. That's the first thing he tells anyone when he talks about our trip to the fair.


We then headed to see the pigs. Lucas was very excited about the pigs, and he was dying to pet one. One of the farmers noticed the desire in his eyes and helped him pet one safely. Lucas walked around the barn oinking back at the pigs! The boys got to see some baby piglets and were super excited to see them walking around on their feeble little legs.

We then saw the goats, sheep, chickens, turkeys, ducks, and bunnies. Adam really showed his excitement when we let him down to run. He was walking up to each pen, pointing, and trying to poke the animals. It made Andy and I both nervous that he was going to get bit, but he didn't and he had a ball. We had to turn his hat backwards, because he kept hitting the bill on the pens he was getting so close.


After the animals it was time for supper. The boys enjoyed grilled cheese and lemon shakeups. Lucas like last year, just couldn't get enough of the lemon shake ups and sucked on the lemons after the drink was all gone. Adam made some faces, but enjoyed his supper.

While we were eating the queen candidates were riding around in the back of pickup trucks. We got to see Sara with last year's queen. She looked so pretty! I stayed late for the contest and Sara did a fantastic job. She was 4th runner up and will spend the week at the fair on the queen's court doing lots of fun activities. Congrats Sara!

After dinner we headed to the exhibit hall to check out the projects. We saw the Blankenberger's, Koester's, and Schmitt's projects. They all did great! They each has several blues and quite a few champions among the group as well, so their hard work paid off.



Next we headed to the tractors and the boys were in awe of just the size of the tires. Lucas loved seeing the combines, bulldozers, and tractors. We ran into some friends at the fair and was able to get a photo of Alayna Hill, Adam, and Eli Pugh all together on their first trip to the big event.


Before heading home we enjoyed some wild berry kettle corn that turned the boys lips, tongues and fingers blue. It was a delicious end to a wonderful trip to the fair.

St. Wendel Bierstube

Well, another St. Wendel Bierstube has come and gone and we did survive. Andy was chairman of the event again this year, so he has been working hard along with the other Knight's members all week long. This year's stube was a success even though it was hot and miserable. The boys missed seeing his Daddy this week, but we worked in as many phone calls and short visits as we could. On Sunday, Lucas was adamant that he get to go to the "party". So we took the boys up to the Knight's home to see the beer trucks before they were gone. For some reason, Lucas thinks there are prizes inside the beer trucks, fortunately they were locked so we didn't have to burst his bubble.

Swimming and Playground Fun

We headed to Grandma Eileen's and Grandpa Jim's for an afternoon fun in the pool and on the playground. The boys both did fantastic in the pool. Neither of them minded being splashed or dunked. After dinner we headed out to play on the playground and Grammy and Papaw got out the bubbles. The boys got a little wild and no one needed soap that night when showering due the large amount of bubbles everyone was wearing. Papaw even decided to slide down the tube slide. He may never do that again :) We had a great time and hope to do it again soon!

Camping 4th of July Weekend

We camped on 4th of July weekend at New Harmonie State Park with the Blankenbergers and Koesters. We had a great time but it was hot and the bugs were awful. All 4 of us came home with way too many bug bites. We were dispensing Benedryl regularly for several days. The boys took their new water table and it was a big hit with all the kids, even the big kids played with it. Adam continued his infatuation with Cheese Balls and found the container regardless of where we hid them. The boys got to swim in the pool and did a great job. Lucas loved the water slide. I'm posting a slide show in the next few days, I'm a little behind on my posts.

Independence Day

We had a great 4th of July. Lucas told everyone, "Happy Independence Day!" We were camping all weekend and I will do a whole post about that, but for tonight it's late, so I'm just going to post a few pics of the boys during out celebration. After dinner the boys changed into their American Boys T-shirts, and what's more American that Busch Light and 4-wheelers. Then we headed into New Harmony with the Koester's and Grandpa Jim and Grandma Eileen. We got ice cream at the Old Mill Mart and then headed to the river for the fireworks display. We were impressed by the fireworks and the boys loved them. Lucas sat on Jarrod's lap with his ears covered and huge grin on his face. Adam relaxed in my lap and Ooood and Ahhd with me. The boys had a great time and Lucas was still talking about the fireworks the next morning.
