4-H Fair

We took our annual trip to the Vanderburgh County Fair and had a great time despite the heat. We started at the "carnival" and the boys rode lots of rides. This was Adam's first time riding and he loved it. Lucas even rode his first roller coaster. He liked it but did ask the guy to stop after about 5 trips around :) We ate corn dogs, pork chop sandwiches, fries, ice cream and drank lots of lemon shake ups. We went through all of the animal barns and Adam was very interested in watching the animals. Lucas just held his nose and wanted no part of the animals this year. We saw several friends and enjoyed our time at the fair. We finished the trip off with some cotton candy and big smiles!

Happy Birthday, Grandma Kay!

We celebrated Grandma Kay's birthday this week. On Wednesday, (her actual birthday) the boys called her and left her a voice mail of them singing Happy Birthday! Adam ended the message with an "I love you, Grandma!" We had dinner tonight and did the traditional cake and candles. The boys helped her blow out her balloon candles and then presented her with their gift. Lucas recorded a book titled, "My Grandma is Special". It was very sweet and he is so proud. Adam wouldn't focus enough to be included in the recording, but thinks the book is his :)

The grownups got Kay a compost barrel and can't wait for all the yummy vegetables that will be fertilized with the compost next summer.

What a wonderful woman Grandma Kay is to all of us. She is a tremendous blessing to Andy, myself, and the boys and we enjoyed celebrating with a dinner full of Happy Birthday wishes and "Cheers" to Grandma! We love you Grandma Kay!

Lucas got to go to his first live show this afternoon. I took him to the EVSC Summer Musical, "Suessical". Lucas loves all the Dr. Suess characters, books, and movies, so I felt that he just couldn't miss it. He was very disappointed as we were leaving when he realized that Daddy and Adam were not coming with us, but we listened to the soundtrack of the musical on our way and he got really excited. He posed with some sets of the characters as we arrived and was so excited that everyone who noticed mentioned how excited he must be to see the show :)

He enjoyed the show and sat still through most of it. After every scene he energetically clapped and yelled, "Bravo!" (I'm not sure where that came from) I thought it was a great performance and it almost brought tears to my eyes watching Lucas get so excited.

After the show Lucas was determined to get one autograph and only one autograph. He passed by the Grinch, Horton, and all the other characters and when right up to the Cat in the Hat. He handed him his notebook and the Cat asked if he enjoyed the show. Lucas looked him in the eye and said, "Yes!" then he said thank you as the cat handed back is notebook. Lucas couldn't believe the Cat had signed his book :) What a great afternoon and wonderful memory that I will hold in my heart forever!

Diving Boards & Bible Verses

Lucas hit a couple of milestones today. He jumped off the diving board all by himself! It took a little while for him to warm up to doing it alone and he still wanted someone in the water to "catch him", but we just let him jump near us. His puddle jumper helped him float right up to the top. Way to go buddy!!!

On a more serious note, he also learned his first Bible verse today. We were in church and he recited and memorized the Responsorial Psalm. "The seed that falls on good ground will yield a fruitful harvest." Mommy was so proud!! I have been working on taking Lucas to church more often and he is now excited to go. He gets his holy water, makes the sign of the cross, and waits for Father to bless the bread and wine. He is starting to recite prayers and asks me frequently when certain parts of the mass are going to happen. He talks constantly in a whisper, but doesn't act up much. He and Adam are also getting much better at participating during our meal prayers. I think we have started a great foundation to start building on at preschool this fall. The most important gift my Mom taught me was my faith in God and I'm excited to start seeing that grow in my sons!

4th of July Weekend

Despite the rain's best efforts we had a great weekend! We spent the majority of the day on Saturday setting up for a party at our house. The boys helped fill up the pool, setup the tent, and clean up the house.

On Sunday, it was beautiful weather until about 4, which is exactly the start time of our "swim party". It rained the rest of the night. So the kids moved inside and we had a wonderful dinner and great time anyway. The kids played and played and played. They watched a movie with popcorn in the theater room and caught a few fireworks from under the tent right before they left.

On Monday, we cleaned up and it still looked like rain so we headed to the movies. The boys were antsy, but enjoyed Cars 2. We headed to New Harmony for fireworks and it started to rain as we go out of the van. We waited about 20 minutes and headed home to see everyone in Wadesville/Blairsville doing fireworks because it wasn't raining there :). We did a few fireworks ourselves and some sparklers and called it a night. We had a great weekend celebrating with friends and family!!
