Today was Lucas's first day of Preschool. He is going to Resurrection, which is a K-8 Catholic school. He goes on Tuesday's and Thursday's, and we drop him off first thing in the morning and pick him up most days after work. So he is there for a full day. He starts off with a few hours of official preschool and then eats lunch with the other school children in the cafeteria, takes a short nap and then has after school care for the remainder of the day.
We have been preparing Lucas for going to school for several weeks now. We bought a new backpack, lunch box, and all the required supplies. He got new shoes and a new green shirt for his first day. We have read books and watched videos all about going to school. So he was really excited and prepared for his first day.
He was ready this morning and wanted me to stop taking pictures at home so he could just go to school. Once we arrived, he walked right in with Daddy. He gave us his backpack and was ready to play. We watched him for a few minutes as we put all his stuff away and figured out the drop off procedures. He was playing with two girls at the bead table, when it was time to say good bye. Andy gave him a high five (very "you are a big boy now" way to say bye) and I asked for a big hug. Lucas politely told me that he was too busy for that now and I kissed him on the cheek and he said, "Thanks, Mom!" As I left I had tears running down my cheeks at the realization that my little baby was a big boy and was going to have a great day in preschool today.
Andy and I picked him up together (apparently neither one of us trusts the other to provide us with enough details to miss anything). Lucas ran up to both of us and hugged us and told us what a great time he had. We took him out to dinner to celebrate and to try to get him to tell us about his day. He told us about story time, computer time, playground time, nap time, and about his prize and his teacher. He was very hungry (not yet adjusted to scheduled eating times and not so much constant grazing) and he was tired (not yet adjusted to the excitement and activities of a full day). He was excited and wants to go back and we were very proud parents.

Adam also had a big day since this was one of his first regular days without Lucas. We bought him a new back pack in preparation for some outings alone with Grandma Kay. So this morning we put on his backpack and he bravely told Lucas good bye and trotted off to Grandma's. Grandma said a few times throughout the day he seemed a little lonely and missed Lucas but was a brave little brother and played on :)
The Rudolph family passed a milestone today and we feel very blessed that we have found a school with such great teachers and care takers and that Adam has wonderful people to spend his days with as well.
